Juan Mann on June 30, 2004 began the first Free Hugs campaign in Central Sydney at the Pit Street Mall. Mann started this campaign to free his mind from depression of his numerous personal difficulties and loneliness that he had been facing for moths together before the advent of this campaign. He felt that random hugs from strangers on the road made a huge difference to the depressive phase he was going through. Mann stated that "I went out to a party one night and a completely random person came up to me and gave me a hug. I felt like a king! It was greatest thing that ever happened". He started carrying the “Free Hugs” iconic sign to the outset and started the idea from his hometown where he had to wait fifteen minutes before an elderly lady came up to him and gave him a hug. He faced initial distrusts and unwillingness of people to be hugged. In October 2005 the police stopped Mann as he had not received a public liability insurance, which was worth $25 million for his activities in public. He signed a petition with 10000 signatures to gain permission of the state. Mann befriended the lead singer for sick puppies, Shimon Moore, which gave more public awareness within a span of two months for his campaign. In the year 2006, Oprah Winfrey in one of her Oprah shows invited Mann. What more reasons do you want to make this Kandi Mask a part of your attire for the day? Embrace Love!
